Job Description

The ROLE

We are seeking an experienced Plant Operator to join our Nyrstar Hobart team. This is a practical, site-based role where you will operate mobile plant and equipment to support safe, efficient materials handling across the operation.

In this role, you will:

  • Operate a range of mobile plant and heavy equipment, which may include dump trucks, water carts, excavators, loaders, road brooms, forklifts and bobcats
  • Load, move and manage raw materials safely across the site, including stockpiling activities
  • Complete work safely and efficiently in line with company procedures, work instructions and site requirements
  • Carry out basic checks and preventative maintenance to keep equipment in safe, operational condition
  • Identify and report hazards, incidents and safety concerns through the appropriate channels
  • Follow safety, hygiene and client material-handling procedures, including wearing required PPE
  • Contribute positively to pre-starts, toolbox meetings, training and site communication sessions
  • Work collaboratively with supervisors, leading hands, operators and site stakeholders

About YOU

To be successful in this role, you will bring proven operating experience, a strong safety mindset and the ability to work confidently in a heavy industrial environment.

You will ideally have:

  • At least 3 years’ experience in a similar or relevant plant operating role
  • Significant experience in stockpiling and materials handling
  • Experience working in a heavy industrial, quarrying, mining or materials handling environment
  • Relevant licences and tickets for plant and equipment operation
  • Experience operating mobile plant such as dump trucks, excavators, front-end loaders and forklifts
  • Mechanical aptitude and an understanding of basic repair and maintenance requirements
  • A genuine commitment to safety, including WHS requirements, site procedures and our Safety 1st Always Works culture
  • Strong time management, prioritisation and self-management skills
  • The ability to problem solve, work with limited supervision and contribute to a team-first environment
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • A flexible approach to working hours, shift work and operational requirements on a 24/7 industrial site
  • A current HR or Medium Rigid licence and forklift licence would be highly regarded
  • First Aid and/or a Level III Operators Certificate would also be advantageous
